Our pets are more than animals we take care of - they're animals that take care of us, too.  If you've never had a bad day melted away with a wag of the tail or a quick game of "fetch," - you need a furry best friend.  My dog Jello has been keeping me sane during this pandemic.  She's always down to go for a walk when I need to clear my head.

If you care for your dog like I do, check their food immediately.  The FDA's recall of Sportmix dog food has expanded.  If your canine family member has this food in their bowl, get rid of it right away.  So far, more than 70 dogs have died and more than 80 have gotten ill due to a toxic mold that has contaminated some of the ingredients.

Now the company, Midwestern Pet Foods, is adding more of their products to the recall list - including those foods that list corn as an ingredient.  According to 6ABC, these are the affected/recalled products:

Pro Pac Adult Mini Chunk, 40 lb. bag
Pro Pac Performance Puppy, 40 lb. bag

Not all of the cases have been confirmed as aflatoxin poisoning, but enough have to make the reasonable assumption that if your dog has been fed this food and gotten sick it most likely is the cause.  The symptoms associated with this condition include:  Fatigue, loss of appetite, vomiting, jaundice and diarrhea.  If you see your pet experiencing these symptoms, contact your veterinarian immediately.
