Officials with the Alto Independent School District have confirmed the 'tragic loss' of a student-athlete during a basketball game this evening. In a statement on the school district's Facebook Page, the release goes on to say:

"...out of respect for the family and in light of student privacy obligations, the District can not provide details at this time."

Alto ISD acknowledges that in the coming days and weeks that they will provide the support needed to their staff, students and community to process this tragedy.  Grief counselors and pastors will be on the Alto campus tomorrow morning beginning at 7:15 in the school cafeteria to provide support and grief counseling.

Other unconfirmed reports from eyewitnesses indicate that others may have been transported to local hospitals due to the shocking nature of the tragedy.

Unfortunately, this is the second tragic event involving an Alto student-athlete.  In 2015, Cam'ron Matthews passed away during a Yellowjacket football game.  In 2016, Alto's football field was renamed Cam'ron Matthews field.

Please keep the family of this student-athlete in your prayers.  Likewise, pray for Alto ISD as well as the community of Alto, Texas.
