Okay, maybe the term "doomsday prepper" is a bit extreme. These days, you really never know what's going to happen next so it's best to be prepared for anything whether it be a pandemic, lockdowns, or extreme weather conditions.

If you're like me and are wildly UNPREPARED for an emergency/natural distaster- then listen up because this weekend is just for you! Several emergency preparation supplies will be tax free this weekend (April 24-26).

Apparently, the sales tax holiday happens annually in April, just before the start of hurricane season in Texas. How have I never known about this? Maybe because in recent years I wasn't fully cognizant of how quickly things can happen! If the past year has taught us anything, it's that really anything can happen and you can never be too prepared!

On the approved list are things like generators, ladders and flashlights- you know the usual things you'd find in an emergency preparedness lists. However, there are items that are not approved for the tax free weekend. Check the list below for items not approved for tax exemption:

  • Medical masks and face masks
  • Cleaning supplies, such as disinfectants and bleach wipes
  • Gloves, including leather, fabric, latex and types used in healthcare
  • Toilet paper
  • Batteries for automobiles, boats and other motorized vehicles
  • Camping stoves
  • Camping supplies
  • Chainsaws
  • Plywood
  • Extension ladders
  • Stepladders
  • Tents
  • Repair or replacement parts for emergency preparation supplies
  • Services performed on, or related to, emergency preparation supplies
