Saturday October 1st, I will be broadcasting live from this amazing event. This one really impacts everyone, as you should be on the lookout for cyclists all over Lufkin, and surrounding towns.

If you have never heard of the Pineywoods Purgatory, you might not be from around here! This is the 25th year they have been putting this event on in conjunction with the Lions Club. If you are a cyclist, this is one of the more demanding rides you can go on. There is one route that is 100 miles and goes out past Alto, and all the way to Altoy and back through Libert. (Yes, these are real East Texas towns.) There are actually four rides, 25, 50, 75 and the grueling 100. There are a lot of hills on these routes which makes them extra challenging.

It's not all sweating and riding, there are plenty of rest stops on the way with food and amenities. When it's all said and done, the Lufkin ER CANTINA will be open, serving your favorite craft beer. There will be fajita lunch from Cafe Del Rio, a DJ playing uplifting music, and a selfie station for you and your friends to snap a picture commemorating the day. Registration is open now at www.pineywoodspurgatory.com

Purgatory will have registration/check-in at the George H. Henderson (Angelina) Expo Center from 5 - 7 p.m. on Friday, September 30th on the East Side - enter Gates 1 & 2 (flag side). Race Day Registration will open at 6:00 a.m. on the East Side. Check out their Facebook for more information, Pictures and maps.
