I have several friends who have been blessed with a baby through IVF. IVF is a medical procedure where an egg is fertilized by sperm elsewhere outside the body. People who struggle to conceive naturally are able to have their own children, but it comes at a hefty cost.

A horrid IVF mix-up has a couple suing a fertility clinic. A New York couple reportedly paid over $100,000 to have twin girls. They were shocked to see the grainy sonogram indicating that they were going to have twin boys. The couple didn't have male embryos transplanted, thus making the outcome of boys impossible. The couple was told that perhaps the sonogram wasn't accurate. Unfortunately, the twin boys were born and they were not of Asian descent like both the mother and father.

Who do these twin boys belong to? After DNA testing confirmed that the twin boys were not the couples. DNA testing further revealed that the twins were not related to each other.  The couple had to relinquish custody of the twins to their genetic parents. Each baby was genetically related to different couples that were going through treatments at the fertility clinic.

After relinquishing custody of the newborns the couple filed a lawsuit July 1st. The couple accuses the CHA Fertility Center and its co-founders of "medical malpractice, negligence, battery and intentional infliction of emotional distress."

This couple must be going through a world of hurt. Imagine giving birth to your long awaited baby girls just to find out weeks later you were nothing more than a surrogate. My heart breaks for the couple, I hope they find peace and eventually get the baby girls that they have been hoping for!
