7 East Texas Students Have Made School Threats So Far This Year
It’s a parent's worst nightmare, to hear about a treat being made toward the school of their child. Unfortunately, it’s a reality that has already happened at least 7 times so far this school year which only began about four months ago according to the Longview News Journal. It’s anyone’s guess on why these students have made these threats but we have to do something to stop this immediately.
The good news is there haven’t been any actions taken upon these threats, but the number of threats continue to increase which is very alarming. I’m not sure what to solution to this problem is but luckily our great law enforcement officers in East Texas are quick to respond when any threat is made toward schools in our area.
What is the Punishment for Making a Threat Toward a School or Students in Texas?
According to a report from KXAN, any person ten years or older can be arrested for making a threat or committing a criminal offense. Threatening to cause harm to a school or students could mean a charge of Terroristic Threat, which could be a misdemeanor or felony depending on how bad the threat is or if any action was taken. The punishment could be as little as up to one year in jail or it could mean 10 years in prison.
Make Sure Your Kids Know to NEVER Threaten Violence at School
One over-reaction as a kid could drastically change their whole life, make sure you speak with your kids about never making a threat at school or online. The punishment could follow them for the rest of their life.
