WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama is looking to nominate a Supreme Court candidate who has enjoyed past Republican support. That's according to Vice President Joe Biden.

Biden's comments in a radio interview airing Thursday offer some of the first indications of the president's criteria in replacing the late Justice Antonin Scalia.

Biden pushed back against Republicans who insist that Obama hand off the decision to the next president. Still, Biden acknowledges the Senate gets to have a say in confirming the president's pick.

He tells Minnesota Public Radio in an interview that "there are plenty of judges" who seemingly fit the criteria that the White House has established.

Republicans have threatened to block any action on an Obama nominee, turning the issue over to the person who succeeds him.
