Mutton Busters Entertain Huge Crowd Saturday at Nacogdoches Rodeo
A sold-out crowd came out for the third and final night of the Nacogdoches Pro Rodeo and Steer Show. Lines started forming at the gate of the Nacogdoches Expo Center nearly an hour before the doors opened at 6:30 p.m.
Once again, it was the mutton bustin' competition that got things underway with the pre-rodeo entertainment at 7 p.m. Fifteen area young cowboys and cowgirls had their opportunity to ride sheep for the shot at winning the nightly championship belt buckle. The event is sponsored by KICKS 105 and Deep East Texas Electric Cooperative.
Here's a list of the fifteen riders that took part in Saturday night's competition:
- LANDON WOOD – 5 – NACOGDOCHES
- WHYATT MALPASS – 7 – NACOGDOCHES
- KAEGAN OWENS – 6 – NACOGDOCHES
- KORGAN OWENS – 6 – NACOGDOCHES
- JULIAN PALACIO – 5 – NACOGDOCHES
- ALLY MOORE – 7 – CUSHING
- KINLEY PINKSTON – 5 – NACOGDOCHES
- ABBY PINKSTON – 7 - NACOGDOCHES
- CAMDEN MCCARVER – 6 – NACOGDOCHES
- BRANSON WILLIAMSON – 6 – NACOGDOCHES
- BENTLEY BAEZA – 5 - NACOGDOCHES
- COLT HOYA – 6 – NACOGDOCHES
- WYATT LOERA – 4 – NACOGDOCHES
- ETHAN LOERA – 5 - NACOGDOCHES
- ROMAN GRAY – 7 - HUDSON
There were several great rides, but in the end, it was 6-year-old Camden McCarver of Nacogdoches who took home the belt buckle with a ride of 71 points. He barely edged out several other mutton busters who were just one point of the pace.
A special thanks to all the sponsors and volunteers who helped put on this great kid's event. Also, thanks to Meagan who didn't hesitate to say yes when I asked her to be our videographer.
Here's a look at the video from all of Saturdays' rides as well as a photo of each rider.
