Want more proof that sending text messages while driving is not just stupid, but also dangerous?  A Katy man learned that the other day.  Tragically, it was the last thing he ever learned.

The Montgomery County Police Reporter reports a 55 year old man from Katy was killed in Navasota on Tuesday when his car ran into the rear end of a tractor-trailer truck.

The Department of Public safety investigator says the man was on his cellphone and sending text messages from his laptop computer at the same time when the accident happened.  The laptop was crushed between the man and the steering wheel, but a partial message was still on the screen.

The DPS says the man apparently wasn't watching the road because there's no sign that he tried to stop or avoid hitting the back of the truck.  He died on impact.

The truck driver was treated for minor injuries at a Navasota hospital.
