Lufkin Police Respond to Reported Active Shooter at Big Lots
Area law enforcement responded this morning just after 7 to Big Lots (809 S. Timberland Drive) to a report of an active shooter. According to a Lufkin Police Department release, the suspect, Reagan Todd Horton, 48, of Lufkin, had been issued a criminal trespass warning for the location at 4:54 a.m. Horton was reportedly there harassing his former girlfriend as she and other employees arrived at work. Officers wrote him the warning and he left the location.
He returned shortly before 7 a.m., shot out the glass Timberland Drive side entrance and entered the store with the shotgun. One employee ran out of the building and called police while the other three fled to a back breakroom and locked the door. Horton was seen on surveillance walking the aisles of the store with the gun, but fled in a red Ford truck before officers arrived.
At 7:48 a.m. Angelina County Sheriff’s Office deputies checked out with a truck matching the suspect vehicle on Tidwell Road in Burke. They made contact with the driver, identified as Horton, and took him into custody.
No Big Lots employees were injured during the incident. Multiple felony charges are pending.
A big thanks to Angelina County Sheriff’s Office for taking Horton into custody.
