A monster sized airport in Texas has got a monster sized number of delayed flights that cause problems for travelers and wreak havoc on schedules, businesses and more.

Dallas-Fort Worth, (DFW), International Airport is the 3rd busiest airport in the world and one of the biggest. (You could fit all of Manhattan Island within its footprint.)  It's also one you're most likely to get held up in.

Last year, nearly 88 million peeps went through DFW International Airport and about a quarter of them had some issues with timing.

DFW International now has, on average, 25.42 percent of its flights delayed ... that's more than 1 in 4 flights held up ... which causes other delays and problems on down the line.

What's Up With DFW?

The weather is the primary factor in DFW's horrible "on time" stats. If weather shuts down DFW, that means planes trying to get to DFW have to wait until the coast is clear. That, in turn, makes them late before they've even left their point of origin.

How Bad Is DFW?

DFW can see an astounding 150 cancellations and almost 1,000 delays in only ONE day. They're not alone either, 2 other mega Texas airports made the "most delayed flights" list: George Bush Intercontinental in Houston was 8th and Austin–Bergstrom International was 11th.

What Airport Is #1 For Delays In The USA?

According to KXAN, it's San Francisco with 29.5% of its flights delayed.

In addition to weather; mechanical issues, prior or post flight delays, crew member shortages and a ton of other things can lead to delays. Once delayed, the rest of your trip can get messed up as well and everybody suffers.

Meetings and special occasions/holidays are missed, hotel reservations get cancelled, restaurants don't see the number of customers they could have, airline reputations and revues get crappy, etc, etc.
