Crazy Food Laws In Texas & New Mexico

Recent food scares have people wondering about food safety. I don't know how much these do for safety or quality but there are some crazy food laws out there.

It seems like there is something wrong with everything, food - wise, these days. The lettuce is causing "explosive diarrhea", (so much for healthy salads), eggs are tainted with salmonella and be careful with dessert - there's heavy metal ... chemicals, not rock music ... in the chocolate.  

All kinds of diseases are running rampant in our foods these days. Luckily for me, (so far, anyway), doughnuts, and Coors Light are still safe.

Crazy Food Laws In The USA

There are tons of laws aimed at the food industry. I don't know that they're all actually making food any safer but there are plenty of 'em and some are downright weird.

Our neighbors in Las Cruces, for example, can have whatever they want for lunch ... as long as they don't carry it in an actual "lunch box". Don't look so smug Texas, there's crazy laws in the lone star state too.

For example, you can't milk someone else's cow. Big no - no where the stars at night are big and bright. (Clap, clap, clap, clap.)

Those are just a few, Texas alone has a ton. Raw milk, for example, can't be sold by the owner of the cow on site. Unless, you it's pre - ordered it and picked up off site. (WTH?)

Same "law, not a law" for bringing your booze to a restaurant. You totally can ... except for when you can't. Texas has laws about all kinds of food, even oysters. By the way, bag a deer on your last hunting trip? Don't sell it. You can eat it or even give it away but don't charge a cent.
