Bacon, Sausage, Breakfast Sandwiches Recalled in Texas
Ask a Texan what the most important meal of the day is and you're probably not going to get a straight answer. For years food experts have been trying to convince us from Orange to El Paso and Amarillo to Brownsville that breakfast should occupy that spot. And while Texans do love a hearty breakfast, we all know what the most important meal of the day really is.
At least in Texas, the most important meal of the day is the "next one". And while we jest about breakfast and how most of us use our eggs, sausage, bacon, and biscuits to kickstart our metabolisms every day we do have some serious news regarding ready-to-eat breakfast sandwiches.
The United States Department of Agriculture's Food Safety Inspection Service has confirmed that Hearthside Food Solutions has initiated a voluntary recall for some of its most popular breakfast products. The reason for the recall is the discovery of a known allergen in the product that was not included in the product's label.
The following products are included in the recall:
8.35-oz. individually film-wrapped sandwiches of “LETTIERI’S FOOD TO GO Sausage, Egg & Cheese FRENCH TOAST BREAKFAST SANDWICH” with lot codes beginning with the numbers 23, 24 and 25 up to 2508451.
7.3-oz. individually film-wrapped sandwiches of “LETTIERI’S FOOD TO GO Bacon, Egg & Cheese FRENCH TOAST BREAKFAST SANDWICH” with lot codes beginning with the numbers 23, 24 and 25 up to 2508451.
What makes this recall particularly troublesome is where these products were shipped and sold. Yes, they are or were available in Texas, however, they were only available for shoppers who utilize the Army & Air Force Exchange Services.
The products were shipped to AAFES locations throughout the nation and it would certainly stand to reason that families who shop at the AAFES at Randolph Air Force Base, Fort Sam Houston, Dyess Air Force Base, Fort Bliss, and countless other military installations around the state could have added these items to their carts and taken them home to their families.
If you do happen to have either of these products in your home, you need to discard the products Or if you'd like to get a refund or exchange you can bring the affected product back to the AAFES location from where it was purchased.
