
Zapp’s Potato Chips Recalled Over Salmonella Concerns
LOUISIANA - If you’ve got a bag of Zapp’s or Dirty potato chips sitting in your pantry right now, you may want to take a closer look before digging in.
On May 4, 2026, a recall has been issued involving several flavors of these potato chips due to potential salmonella contamination concerns throughout Louisiana and the country.
Why Zapp’s And Dirty Chips Are Being Recalled
The recall comes from Utz Quality Foods, the company behind both Zapp’s and Dirty brand chips. According to federal safety officials, the issue is tied to a seasoning ingredient supplied by a third party.
While testing reportedly did not detect salmonella in the finished seasoning, according to the FDA, the recall was issued out of an abundance of caution after the supplier discovered the potential risk.

As of now, thankfully no illnesses have been reported.
What Is Salmonella?
Salmonella is a type of bacteria that can cause, in some cases serious illness. Symptoms can include diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps. In severe cases, especially for young children, older adults, and those with weakened immune systems, it can lead to more serious complications.
What Zapp's Chips Are Being Recalled?

The recall includes multiple sizes of the following flavors and brands:
Zapp's Bayou Blackened Ranch
Zapp's Big Cheezy
Zapp's Salt and Vinegar
Dirty Salt and Vinegar
Dirty Maui Onion
Dirty Sour Cream and Onion chips.
Affected chips are stamped with best-by dates ranging from late July through Aug. 31, 2026.
