(East Texas) Look around Texas, and you'll find free things to do everywhere.

You can find an adventure by opening a book from your local public library. You can burn off some calories by playing tennis or basketball at a local park. The kids can expend some of their excess energy by exploring the playground at the city park. You could go for a nice stroll around the neighborhood and possibly get to know some of your neighbors.

While we really enjoy going to amusement and water parks during our getaways and seeing the latest superhero or horror flick on the big screen on the weekend, or going shopping at the mall, those things cost money.

These days, we're struggling to save money because of inflation. The cost of living in Texas continues to rise. Insurance, the cost of rent or a mortgage, utilities,  groceries, and the price of eating out are a few examples of how life has increasingly gotten more expensive for Texas families.

Budget-Friendly Fun for Texas Families

We still will find ways to afford a quick weekend family getaway or short vacation, because we all need a break from time to time. And when booking these affordable weekend getaways, we're still looking for ways to save money.

Free Activities in Every Texas Town

Instead of playing that round of mini-golf or trying to find your way out of an escape room, you can find FREE things to do in the town wherever your weekend getaway takes you.

Historical sites, nature walks, stroll through historical areas in a city, feel the sand in your toes along a Texas beach, or even window shopping in a mall, just don't pull the card out, are just a few of the free things to do wherever you go in Texas.

Festivals and Events That Cost Nothing

There are even events and festivals all over the state that you can attend that are free each month, Canton First Monday Trade Days, for instance. It's just $5 to park, but the open-air flea market is free to wander through; just don't give in to temptation. YOU CAN walk away by not purchasing anything. I've done it many times before.

So when it comes to planning your next weekend or family getaway, look around you and you will find ways that could save you some money while still having a great time and possibly learn something while doing something that is free.
