Tyler is Set to Get a Toys R Us for the Holidays – Why Not Lufkin?
I don't remember exactly when the Toys R Us store in Lufkin closed down. I just remember it being a big deal for those of us who used to love going in there. Now, there's a new - supposedly temporary - Toys R Us opening up in Tyler, and it's got those of us in Deep East Texas wondering if getting one could even be a possibility for us.
Toys R Us Should Come Back to Lufkin
The other day I started hearing some Facebook chatter about Toys R Us opening up a store in Tyler soon. Then, one of our Townsquare Media stations in Tyler - KNUE - posted about it, saying that it would be a "pop-up store" in the Broadway Square Mall. It'll be opening for the upcoming holiday season. Now, go with me on this...That kind of thing would be perfect for Lufkin! There are lots of open spaces in the Lufkin Mall where the store could move right back in.
And here's another plus for that idea: There are no actual toy stores ANYWHERE around here. Sure, you can get a decent selection of Legos video games and things from Walmart, but there aren't any stores on the same level as Toys R Us where you can get those things.
Remembering Toys R Us in Lufkin
Before I go any further, I realize that there are some - actually LOTS - of people that may not have known that Lufkin even had a Toys R Us. It was across from the Lufkin Mall, where Office Depot currently sits. Like I said earlier, I'm not sure exactly when it closed, but I know that it was before February 2008, because that's as far back as Google Maps images for that location go, and it already showed Office Depot in that building at that time.

As you can tell, I miss Toys R Us. Even as an adult, I still think it would be great to have it make it's way back here. Will it happen? I'm doubtful, but we can still hope, right?
