Get Ready For Mud And Mayhem At The Red Dirt Mud Run
The Red Dirt Mud Run in Nacogdoches is always quite the event to watch. I've never run it before, but I have enjoyed being a spectator. For those of you that run it, you have my respect. For those of you that - like me - just enjoy watching, that's alright too.
Whether you're looking to compete or just watch, this year's run is coming up on May 2nd.
What is the Red Dirt Mud Run?
If you've never heard of it before, the Red Dirt Mud Run isn't just a 5K race where you have to pass through a few ankle-deep water puddles to justify calling it "mud". No, this is a 5K race put on by the Nacogdoches Jaycees that makes you run through mud of all varying depths, along with obstacles. That's why it's called the 5K Obstacle Challenge.
And these aren't just simple obstacles. According to the Red Dirt Mud Run website, there are more than 25 obstacles, ranging from axe throwing, slip and slides, mud pits (duh.), to the "Death Medal Pedal". *For that last one, you'll have to go look it up on the website yourself. It sounds brutal...*
Also, there are different levels - beginner, advanced, and HARDCORE - depending on your level of strength and resilience.
Red Dirt Mud Run Event Information
Like I said, this test of endurance...strength...sanity(?)...will take place on Saturday, May 2nd, out at the Nacogdoches County Expo Center. It starts at 8:40 that morning and will wrap up at 1:00 that afternoon.

Right now, the registration fee is $50 per contestant, but that's just an early bird special. After April 18th, that price goes up to $60.
So, now you have the information. There's still time left for you to get registered, and there's still time for you to mentally and physically prepare yourself for the Jaycee's Red Dirt Mud Run 5K Obstacle Challenge, coming up on May 2nd. It's your chance as an adult to play in the mud!
