The Real Reason We Don’t Have Drone Delivery in Deep East Texas
Drones are pretty cool inventions. They're used for toys, surveillance, surveying, alternatives for fireworks, and - one that I got to experience recently - delivery. I was actually in Waxahachie, and saw this small plane go overhead. When I asked about it, the person I was with informed me that it was a delivery drone from the local Walmart.
I don't know about you, but that was pretty mind-blowing to me. People joke about Deep East Texas being at least ten years behind the rest of Texas, and to some extent, I suppose that's got some truth to it. Since we're not very close to any major metropolitan hubs like Houston or Dallas, things don't pick up as quick here. Drone deliveries are not something that I'd seen before. I certainly hadn't seen them in Nacogdoches or Lufkin. But, as I was thinking about it, a thought came to mind.

The reason we don't have drone delivery might not lie solely on our location, though that might play a little part. I think there's a bit more pressing reason...
Deep East Texas Has a Rather Large Sporting Population
Here behind the Pine Curtain we have lots of sportsmen. Tons of hunters, tons of gun owners...it's a thing. I mean, from the time I could walk, I was heading to the deer lease with my dad. It's basically in our DNA. We grow up with it.
If you're sitting there asking, "What does that have to do with drone delivery?" - Think about it. You have a small flying aircraft, obviously not large enough to carry a person. You might even compare it - LOOSELY - to the clay pigeons that are part of the local skeet shooting competitions. I'm not saying it's a fact that people would use them for target practice...I'm just saying it wouldn't be surprising if they did...

Let's just say that the replacement costs for damaged drones would probably stack up pretty quick here...
Why Do YOU Think We Don't Have Drone Delivery?
What about you? What reason do you give for the lack of drone delivery here in Deep East Texas? Could there be a possibility that there's some weight in the reasoning above? Do we not have it because of our location? Both? Or, is there another reason completely different from any of these?
I'd like to know.
