Winter Storm Warnings in Texas Extended to Nacogdoches and Center

The National Weather Service has expanded a Winter Storm Warning to included several more counties to the south of the original WSW issued yesterday.

Nacogdoches, Cherokee, Rusk, Panola, and Shelby Counties are included in the updated Winter Storm Warning. This alert will continue until 6 p.m. on Monday, January 15.

According to National Weather Service, residents within the warned counties can expect heavy mixed wintry precipitation. Total sleet and snow accumulations of up to one inch and ice accumulations between one-tenth to a quarter of an inch with locally higher amounts are possible.

This Winter Storm Warning includes much of south-central Arkansas, northwest Louisiana, northeast Texas, and northern areas of Deep East Texas.

A winter weather advisory is in effect for the remainder of the Pineywoods not covered by the Winter Storm Warning. A wintry mix of between 0.1 to 0.2 inches is possible between Sunday evening and midday Monday.

Much of the eastern half of Texas are under at least one winter weather advisories or warnings including Winter Storm Warnings, Winter Weather Advisories, Wind Chll Advisories, and/or Hard Freeze Warnings.

IMPACTS

Hazardous driving conditions due to an icy roadway. Bridges and overpasses will be the most dangerous to travel. This will mostly affect travel Sunday night and throughout the day on Monday.

Scattered power outages may occur due to ice accumulation on trees and power lines. This will be more widespread north of Deep East Texas.

By Monday night, the precipitation will have moved out of our area, however, colder temperatures and windy conditions will move in for Monday night. Overnight temperatures on Monday and Tuesdaywill dip into the teens across the Pineywoods with wind chills near zero on Monday night/Tuesday morning.
