Football teams across the Deep East Texas area are getting geared up for the 2nd round of the UIL Texas High School Football Playoffs. With the exception of the Center Roughriders, all Area-round games involving teams from the Pineywoods will be played on Friday night. And, for the first time in nearly a month, it looks like the weather on Friday night should be decent (knock on wood).

There should be some excellent showdowns as it looks like several games feature evenly matched teams.

The Beckville-Joaquin matchup at SFA Friday night should be a doozy. Both teams are stout and they met each other back in early September. Beckville came away with a one-point victory in that game.

There are several teams scheduled to play in East Texas that are #1 in the state. I believe Carthage, Timpson, and Mart will advance to the 3rd round of the playoffs. However, many of the other games on the schedule below could be decided by a touchdown or less, with the exception of Newton, I believe they will roll on rather easily.
