There are some big changes on the way for the road construction zone on Highway 59 south of Nacogdoches. According to a statement from the Texas Department of Transportation, there will be some different traffic configurations beginning this upcoming week.

Beginning Tuesday, November 14, work crews will start performing a concrete paving repair on the northbound main lane of Highway 59, south of Spradley Street.

This repair is scheduled for four days, weather permitting, and will require different traffic configurations throughout the day and night. Because traffic will be reduced to one northbound lane, motorists should expect delays.

While this project is being tackled, another one will start on Thursday, November 16. Road crews will begin modifying the southbound traffic pattern on Highway 59, just south of the Spradley intersection.

This work will help to facilitate the construction of the southbound frontage road. Because of the potential traffic impact and the new location aspect of the traffic pattern change, there will be law enforcement on site helping to direct traffic control with these efforts.

There are message boards already in place notifying motorists of these activities.  Motorists are encouraged to reduce speed, stay alert to changing traffic patterns, and expect delays through this heavily traveled area.

Keep in mind that this upcoming weekend (November 18-19) will mark the beginning of the Thanksgiving holiday. Expect the amount of traffic in this area to increase during that time.

This Highway 59 connector project has been underway for several years and is expected to be completed by December 2024.
