The National Weather Service's Storm Prediction Center in Norman, Oklahoma, has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of central and east Texas until 8 pm.

The Watch Includes The Following Counties

Anderson, Angelina, Bell, Brazos, Burleson, Burnet, Cherokee, Falls, Freestone, Grimes, Houston, Lee, Leon, Limestone, Madison, Milam, Nacogdoches, Polk, Robertson, San Augustine, San Jacinto, Trinity, Walker, and Williamson

What to Expect

A large area of showers and thunderstorms has been occurring throughout the midday over portions of central and north-central Texas. Some of these storms have prompted warnings, as well as flooding concerns.

This line is expected to push eastward towards the Lufkin/Nacogdoches area. Some of the primary threats include scattered damaging wind gusts (up to 70 mph possible), and isolated large hail events (up to 1.5 inches in diameter).

The severe thunderstorm watch area is approximately along and 50 statute miles north and south of a line from 35 miles west of Temple, Texas to 25 miles east of Lufkin, Texas.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area. People in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible
warnings. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally do produce
tornadoes.
