According to the National Night Out website, a total of 416 Texas cities and towns across Texas participate in this annual event that brings law enforcement and their respective communities together. In Deep East Texas, Lufkin, Nacogdoches, Crockett, Tenaha, Jasper, Trinity, Alto, Rusk, Palestine, and Henderson are some of the towns that have National Night Out events in October.

What Is National Night Out?

This nationwide, annual community-building campaign promotes police-community partnerships and neighborhood camaraderie to make neighborhoods and cities safer, more caring places to live. National Night Out helps to bridge gaps that sometimes exist between law enforcement and communities. It provides a great opportunity to bring police and neighbors together under positive circumstances.

National Night Out takes place in August throughout most of the U.S., but Texas opts for the first Tuesday of October. The reasoning for that shouldn't be too difficult. October evenings in Texas can still be quite warm, but in August, it's so hot that even the artificial flowers are dying.

Lufkin Police To Celebrate With 'Rock The Park'

The City of Lufkin invites families to Cotton Square in Downtown Lufkin on October 6,  from 6 pm to 8 pm. Lufkin's National Night Out event is titled 'Rock The Park'. This free event will feature live music from the Crimestoppers Band, plus free coffee (compliments of Standpipe), free sno-cones from the City of Lufkin HR Department, face painting, a TxDOT prize wheel, photo booth pictures, and more.

Kids will have tons of opportunities to explore emergency vehicles, such as the Lufkin Police SWAT truck, patrol boat, inflatable learning house, fire truck, ambulance, and more. All these vehicles are free to investigate. The weather should be close to perfect for this year's event, with temperatures expected to be in the 80s.
