Lufkin High School Marching Band Earns UIL State Title
This is The Third Straight Championship for Lufkin
12 Schools Competed in the Statewide Competition
The Lufkin High School Panther Band has done it again! For the third straight year, Lufkin has earned the championship at the 5A/6A UIL State Military Marching Band competition.
The event was held on Tuesday and Wednesday at McClain Stadium on the campus of Baylor University in Waco.
Lufkin was one of five bands advancing to Wednesday evening's championship round after advancing through the earlier preliminary round. Three judges score each band on their music performance, while two judges score for marching.
When all scores were totaled, Lufkin edged out Longview for the state title. Humble Atascocita finished third followed by Crosby and Humble Kingwood. Other bands participating included Cleveland, Ennis, Hallsville, Huntsville, Jacksonville, Nacogdoches, and Whitehouse.
The Lufkin Panther Band advanced to the state tournament after being awarded a First Division rating at the UIL Region 21 Marching Contest which was held on October 19th at Longview High School.
Lufkin High School Band Directors are George Little (Director), Brandon Beavers (Assistant Director), and Aubrianne Wattigney (Assistant Director). Drum Majors for the Panther Band are Lucy Lantis and Maddie Minter.
The Lufkin Panther Band will be putting their award-winning talents on display when they perform at halftime Friday night at Abe Martin Stadium. The Lufkin football team will be hosting their final regular season game of the year when they play Beaumont United.
You'll also be able to see Lufkin's Marching Band on November 9 at Abe Martin Stadium when they present their annual Honor America Night.
