Break Out the Umbrellas, How Much Rain Will East Texas Get?

Every county, but two, in the eastern half of Texas remains under a burn ban.

Although September has been kind enough to bring some widespread rain to that part of the Lone Star State, much more is needed to erase the high dangers of wildfires.

Did Someone Say Cold Front?

You heard right, a cold front is moving through East Texas this week. Granted, you may not need to break out any sweaters or light jackets, but high temperatures should be in the low to mid-80s.

That's only a few degrees below the normal temps this time of the year, but it's a good 20+ degrees below the temperatures we've had for most of the summer.

What's Better Than a Cold Front?

The correct answer is a stalled or stationary cold front. That usually means increased rain chances over that area. That's exactly what forecasters are expecting for the Pineywoods.

Rain chances are expected to be at 50% or better across Deep East Texas from Wednesday through Saturday. Most weather models are forecasting a half-inch to nearly 2 inches of rain to fall in our area during that time. Some models are showing that over a half-foot of rain could fall in an area from Waco to Abilene to Fort Worth.

Here's what the Weather Prediction Center is forecasting for total rainfall statewide through Saturday.

Burn Bans to Continue

I doubt the burn bans will go away unless there is a widespread soaking across the Pineywoods. If the forecast holds true to form, however, this would be another step in the right direction to getting those bans lifted.
