👮‍♂️The Suspected Vehicle May Have Been Found Due to a Crime Stoppers Tip

👮‍♂️Vehicle Owner Has 'Lawyered Up'


Sunday morning, around 6:15, Lufkin Police responded to a hit-and-run accident that had occurred in the 900 block of Abney. Officers arrived at the scene to find a man who had been struck by an SUV while he was riding his bicycle. The man would succumb to his injuries at the hospital where he was pronounced deceased.

Monday afternoon, City of Lufkin Communications released the name of the victim. He is Daryl Taylor, 46, of Lufkin. Please keep him and his friends and family in your thoughts and prayers.

Police released a home surveillance video that showed a dark SUV believed to be involved in the hit-and-run incident. Thanks to a Crime Stoppers tip that came in Sunday, authorities are confident that they have identified the suspect vehicle involved in Taylor’s death.

Lufkin Detectives obtained a search warrant for the vehicle and seized it Sunday night. It appears to have damage consistent with the collision. It will be processed for further evidence. The owner of the vehicle said they would only speak to officers in the presence of their attorney.

Taylor was riding his bicycle westbound against the flow of traffic when the suspect vehicle, also traveling westbound, crossed all lanes of traffic and struck Taylor from behind.

Detectives with the Lufkin Police Department are continuing their investigation into the collision. They will provide further updates as they become available.
