The 'Cradle of Texas' is the place to be this weekend as San Augustine will be the setting for the annual Main Street Heritage Days. Events will kick off Friday evening, and then Saturday features a full day of fun events.

Friday, June 2

Main Street Heritage Days will officially start Friday evening at 6:30 p.m. with BINGO night on the San Augustine downtown square. There will, of course, be prizes for the winners, and entry is FREE!

Saturday, June 3

Get the blood pumping bright and early with the 'Run Wild' Heritage Days Run/Walk. This picturesque 2.2-mile cross-country course winds through dozens of native and exotic types of trees and plants along the Sante Fe Trail on the Ayish Bayou. Registration for the event will start at 7:15 a.m., and the race/run/walk will start at 8. The registration will take place at the Log Cabin across from Brookshire Brothers. It's free to register and the first 25 registrants get a t-shirt.

Other events on Saturday include live entertainment on the Courthouse Pavilion Stage, All Aboard Train Rides, meet East Texas Authors at the Author's Corner, Heritage Car Show, Dutch Oven Cooking Contest, Hay Rides to Mission Dolores, bus tours to historic sites, guided tours of the 1919 jail museum, pancake breakfast starting at 8 a.m., tractor parade and show, meet the National Watermelon Queen, plus numerous food vendors and shopping.

San Augustine is a beautiful city with friendly, welcoming citizens. Plus, the town is steeped in history.  Make it a point to visit this weekend during the Main Street Heritage Days.
