ICYMI: East Texas Native Inducted Into The Hall Of Fame
As a graduate of West Sabine High School in tiny little Pineland, Texas, I grew up knowing the name Teresa Weatherspoon. In fact, lots of people knew who Teresa "T. Spoon" Weatherspoon was. People across the nation.
If you don't know who Teresa Weatherspoon is, that's alright. Here's a bit of background info for you.
Teresa is a native of Pineland. She grew up there and played basketball from West Sabine. From there she went on to play college ball at Louisiana Tech, playing from 1984-1988. She competed with Team USA in several different competitions, all while playing professionally overseas.
In 1997, she gained even more attention as she was chosen to play for the New York Liberty, in the inaugural season for the WNBA. During her time there, she racked up lots of different awards and recognition, too many to name here. She retired from the WNBA after her 2004 season. But, she wasn't done. She went on to coach, and even held a head coaching position at her former college, LA Tech.
This past weekend, Teresa's name came up again, in front of the whole world. She was chosen to be inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame, Class of 2019. You can see her entire acceptance speech below:
From little, tiny Pineland, Texas, to the Hall of Fame. That's pretty awesome stuff. Well done, Teresa!
