Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo ‘Shooting’ Update
Last night just after 10 pm i received a call from my daughter who was at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. She called to assure me she was okay. She was worried I had seen reports of an "active shooter" in the carnival area.
Needless to say, I was instantly worried and thankful. Speculation has been high and explanations have been difficult to find. The HLSR organization have recently issued this press release to give more info.
The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and the Houston Police Department had a joint press briefing today (Thursday, March 16) at 12:30 p.m., at NRG Park and released an update in an email that included info stating the police had found a fresh 9 mm casing, but no eyewitnesses reported actually seeing a firearm discharged that night.
One individual was apprehended because they attempted to evade the scene.
The people running the show are continuing to work with HPD, the Harris County Sheriff's Office, and the Texas Department of Public Safety, whose officers provide security on the grounds, and they'll determine, and adjust the amount of security needed for future events.
"If anything needs to be done differently, it will be done today," said Cowley.
So if you heard there was an "active shooter," know that no victims have come forward, no weapon has been found, and there's really not enough to go on just yet to keep spreading that around. Houston law enforcement has it under control.
