The inaugural -- first ever -- East Texas Summer Fest happens this weekend at the George H. Henderson Expo Center.  That's the big indoor rodeo arena on the North Loop in Lufkin.

The music festival lineup includes Whiskey Myers and Josh Abbott Band, as well as Seth Candan, Route 4, Lords of Denman, the SFA Steel Drum Band, new comer Tesa James from Sulphur, La., and Lufkin natives Bryan Harkness and Buffalo Nickel Band.

They'll be entertaining on two stages — one inside and one outside the expo center.  Beer and food vendors will be set up around the expo center, and judging for the Backyard BBQ Cook-Off begins at 1 p.m. Saturday.

A portion of Summer Fest proceeds will go to the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 113 for its “Because We Care” program, which provides care packages for servicemen and women serving overseas.  Fest-goers are invited to bring their donated toiletries, snacks and non-perishable goods to the Summer Fest gates.
