Didi Gregorius Homers Lead Yankees Over Indians, 5-2: ALDS Recap
Didi Gregorius hit two home runs off Corey Kluber, and the New York Yankees beat the Indians, 5-2, in the decisive Game 5 of the American League Division Series in Cleveland on Wednesday. With the win, New York completed its rally from two games down in the series and advanced to face the Astros in the ALCS starting in Houston on Friday.
Gregorius hit home runs off Kluber in successive at-bats in the first and third innings, and New York never trailed in the game, though starter CC Sabathia did fade in the fifth inning when the Indians plated runs on singles by Roberto Perez and Giovanny Urshela.
Winning pitcher Dave Robertson bailed out the Yankees, bridging the gap to closer Aroldis Chapman, who threw two hitless innings for the save. Brett Gardner added a two-run single in the ninth inning for New York, which advanced to the league championship series for the first time since 2012.
The Yankees became the eighth team in Major League Baseball history to rally from an 0-2 hole to win a best-of-five series.
