One of the main reasons I do my grocery shopping at Brookshire Brothers is because they are always finding ways to give back to the communities in which they are located. Just in time for Easter weekend, here's another case in point.

According to a recent press release, Brookshire Brothers partnered with Hormel Foods Cure 81® Hams for Hunger® program to donate 400 ½-size Cure 81® hams to the Christian Information & Service Center in Lufkin, a non-profit organization that provides food assistance in Angelina County.

“Brookshire Brothers cares about people, and our mission is to aid in the fight against food insecurity throughout the communities we serve. We are grateful for partnerships like the one we have with Hormel Foods so we can extend a helping hand to our friends and neighbors who need it most,” said Brookshire Brothers Public Relations and Corporate Responsibility Manager Melissa Crager.

CISC staff members and volunteers picked up the hams from Brookshire Brothers’ Gaslight store on Wednesday, April 13, and CISC Executive Director Yulonda Richard said they will utilize their Helping Hands program to ensure the hams are distributed.

“CISC is humbled by not only Brookshire Brothers’ donation but their support in thinking of us in these difficult times that we live in,” Richard said. “We are still here only by the grace of God and the support of this wonderful community, 40 years and counting. Thank you to Brookshire Brothers from the bottom of our hearts, and in doing this, they’ve helped this community to have a wonderful Easter dinner.”

Celebrating its 31st anniversary, the Hormel® Cure 81® Hams for Hunger® program is a partnership between Hormel Foods and grocery retailers across the country designed to support hunger-relief efforts. Brookshire Brothers has been serving the East Texas community for over 100 years after starting their first store in 1921.

Brookshire Brothers is also the presenting sponsor for the annual Angelina County Fair in Lufkin.  Here's a look at some of the fair contestants through the years as they participated in interviews at KICKS 105 Radio.
