Ariel Castro Found Dead In Jail Cell

Convicted rapist and kidnapper Ariel Castro was found dead in his jail cell outside Cleveland, Ohio on Tuesday night, September 3.

Castro was found hanging in his cell at 9:20 PM central time by prison guards. He had been held in protective custody, in a cell by himself. Upon discovery by the guards, prison medical staff were summoned and began life-saving procedures. He was pronounced dead at an offsite medical center at 10:52 pm. An investigation is underway.

Castro had been convicted on August 1 of kidnapping and sexually assaulting Amanda Berry, Michelle Knight, and Gina DeJesus for over a decade. He had been sentenced to life in prison plus 1,000 years.
