This makes three in one week.  An earthquake with a magnitude of 2.7 rattled East Texas Thursday afternoon.

Shelby County has seen a lot of tremors in the past several months, and it has some wondering if this is the new norm in Shelby County, and across East Texas.

The U.S. Geological Survey says the most recent quake hit 2 miles south of Timpson around 3:20 p.m. yesterday.  Another quake just hit Timpson on Tuesday, and suddenly the relatively quiet town of 1100 is attracting attention because of the frequency of the quakes.  Tuesday's quake measured 2.7, and a third quake last Friday rattled the same area only with stronger force.  That quake on January 25th had a magnitude of 4.1.  If we go back to May of 2012, this is the ninth quake to hit the same area in Shelby County, according to the US Geological Survey. The strongest one registered a magnitude of 4.8.

The USGS tells us more about the history of earthquakes in Texas HERE.  The biggest quake ever to strike Texas came near Valentine in 1931 and it had a magnitude of 5.8 and caused some pretty serious damage.

Those of us who think earthquakes are mostly confined to California are having to change our way of thinking.
