If you had to take a wild guess at which Texas city is the most friendly to wild animals, which one would you say?  It might have something to do with the bats.

Austin is the most wildlife-friendly city in the United States, according to the National Wildlife Federation.  It has to do with how much parkland it has, how active the community is to create wildlife habitats, and outdoor wildlife lessons in school.  Austin the most backyard habitats and schoolyard habitats per capita, in fact.

Have you ever seen the bats fly out from under the Congress Avenue Bridge at dusk? Me too.  One-point-five million bats flying out from under the bridge is impressive and amazing, and it makes you wonder two things:  How did all those bats fit under the bridge in the first place; and what's that smell?  Oh yes, we all have to go to the bathroom first thing when we wake up, and bats are no exception. But it's still beautiful, and an amazing show of nature.

Maybe all the wildlife is attracted to the music scene?  The smell of Tex-Mex and BBQ? Whatever it is, Austin attracts more than just cool people.  It's bats, birds, turtles, and frogs, and it's another reason it's worth the drive.
