Perry Names First African-American Education Commissioner

Governor Rick Perry has appointed former Texas Railroad Commission Chairman Michael Williams to the position of Texas Education Commissioner. Williams also happens to be the first African-American ever appointed to manage the Texas Education Agency.

Court: Texas Can Stop Funding Planned Parenthood

Texas officials say they will cut state funding for Planned Parenthood, now that a federal appeals court has ruled in the state's favor, in a challenge over a new law that prohibits giving state money to women's health clinics that are affiliated with abortion providers.

DMV Will Accept Foreign Photo ID’s For One Year

The Houston Chronicle reports the Texas Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) is changing its identification requirements for registering or transferring vehicle titles. Starting next month, DMV will accept ANY government issued photo ID card, including cards issued by foreign governments.  The temporary rules will expire on August 31st of 2013, when DMV will require an American-issued photo ID.
