Jen Austin

It's fun to pick on the boys in the office, fun to play music, and fun to talk to you all day at work. Thanks for listening! I grew up in a one-stoplight town in rural Nebraska. My whole family still lives there and I love going back to visit them, but I also love Texas. Barbecue, fajitas, and great live music....it's the place to be. I've lived in Texas for 16 years now. Austin, Dallas, and here. I've worked in radio from the moment I graduated from college. (The University of Nebraska...Go Huskers!) I've been on a hundred stations at one point or another. I just love radio. Other things I love....let's see. Blue ink. Black bores me a bit. I love cheddar cheese and barbecue sauce and anything that the two happen to touch. I fall asleep in almost every movie I attempt to watch I have made it through Eat, Pray, Love and Mr. Wright. I like chick flicks. I have an awesome family and love spending time with them. You'll probably hear me talk about my daughters on the air. They're toddler girls who exhaust me, crack me up, and amaze me because I don't think I was ever that smart. I have two miniature schnauzers too. Thanks for stopping by. Now tell me about you.

Another Texas City Bans Texting and Driving

It's not just texting and driving that Austin is banning, but talking on the cell phone in the car too if the phone is up to the ear.  And if a police officer catches drivers or bicyclists tapping on an app while moving, they can be cited.

Hands-free devices are okay, but even mobile devices like iPads and other tablets fall under the ban now.

What about sitting at stoplights?

Worker Escapes A Lion At The Dallas Zoo

Having a job working with animals at a zoo has to be sort of similar to a security guard watching security cameras all day.  Most of the time everything is calm and serene and just fine, and very little happens.  But then there's that one moment when things get tense, and it's time to act!

A worker was cornered by a lion at the Dallas Zoo a few days ago, and had to be treated at the hospital after the attack.  Here's what led up to it.

Are Texas Dance Halls A Thing Of The Past?

Central Texas has some dance halls with history behind them, like the Broken Spoke in Austin, and Gruene Hall about 45 minutes to the south.

Those two spots seem to have enough history and tradition behind them to continue drawing a crowd, and they've got that cool factor that attracts both older cowboy boots and young skinny jeans.  But will other Texas dance halls last?

Texas Fisherman Is Surprised When It’s A Shark On The Line

Ok fishermen, have you ever reeled in a catch as big as your truck?  You anglers get a bad rap for your tendency to exaggerate just how big the catch was, but this 800-pound monster was no exaggeration.  Seriously!  A San Antonio man hauled in this monster last weekend.
