Galveston, Texas has long been the home of some of the finest seafood restaurants in the entire country, and a majority of those successful eateries was based in freshly caught and naturally sourced authentic gulf coast products. Over the years though, many restaurants who boasted about featuring those authentic catch of the day seafoods have proven to be full of it by serving up farm raised imports from across the globe.

According to this recent KENS article, a random check of local seafood restaurants that advertised serving caught here, served here shrimp, after a simple DNA test, were actually found to be lying over half of the time. This is not the first time by any means that an industry as mislead the public, but as we know people who deal in counterfeit goods are often supporting scary entities around the world like the fake fashion industry and terrorism.

The domestic shrimp industry used to sell their goods at a rate of 3 to 4 times what they do now, and have had zero answer for the undercutting cheapness of imported goods. Now, with new tariffs being placed, local fishermen are excited to see the business of local distributors and restaurants returning.

It really will be interesting to see what businesses are boosted, revived, or eliminated due to new tariffs, but as someone who always tries to buy American anyway, I welcome the prospect of something being labeled American, actually being American.
