This year, listeria outbreaks have become a recurring headline across Texas and the U.S., with major recalls impacting widely distributed brands.

Boar’s Head products faced a recall due to potential listeria contamination, prompting customers to check lot numbers and return affected items. More notably, BrucePac—a major supplier of ready-to-eat chicken products—initiated a large-scale recall after listeria was detected in its Durant, Oklahoma, facility.

These products were distributed to grocery stores, schools, institutions, and restaurants, increasing the potential reach of contaminated items.

The USDA has categorized this as a Class 1 recall, indicating a high health risk due to the possibility of serious illness.

Symptoms of listeriosis, the illness caused by listeria bacteria, include fever, muscle aches, nausea, and in severe cases, can lead to neurological issues. Those most at risk include pregnant women, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems, who can experience life-threatening complications from the infection.
