Legendary South Louisiana Eatery Teases a Potential Texas Expansion
Lafayette’s legendary po’boy shop, Olde Tyme Grocery, is dropping breadcrumbs of speculation online, hinting at a possible expansion to Texas. The beloved eatery, known for its overstuffed po’boys and unique South Louisiana flavors, recently took to social media with a post that has sparked curiosity:
“Hopefully coming soon to a city in the great state of #Texas near you?!?!”
Even though there was no confirmation one way or the other, the simple statement ignited a frenzy of excitement, especially among Louisiana natives now residing in Texas. Another comment from Olde Tyme tagged several municipalities, including Houston, Dallas, San Antonio, and Corpus Christi, leaving fans from all over the Lone Star State hungry for more confirmation.
Excited Fans Are Talking
The comments section erupted with enthusiasm, with fans urging the shop to land in their towns. One commenter, Liz Grayson Landry, suggested Katy, TX, noting, “Tons of LA people here!” Another fan, Marie Jones, from Houston’s Kingwood area, added, “Born and raised in Lafayette, now in Kingwood…we need you!”
Even local alumni chapters weighed in. The UL Lafayette Alumni Association's Houston chapter made their pitch, highlighting the significant Cajun presence in the area.
A Growing Trend of Louisiana Businesses Going Beyond State Lines
If Olde Tyme Grocery does indeed make the move, it wouldn’t be the first South Louisiana institution to expand beyond state lines. Sneaker Politics, another Lafayette-born business, has Texas locations in Dallas and Austin.
Best Stop, famous for its boudin, found a home in Katy, TX, while specialty meat stores and Gulf Coast staples like Rouses Markets have expanded to neighboring states.
What’s Really Next for Olde Tyme?
While fans are eager for a new location in Texas, some are concerned about whether Olde Tyme will retain its authenticity outside Louisiana. One commenter, Bill Martin, warned, “Never as good when opening in another state,” but others, like Nick Spears, defended the move, saying, “Texas is thriving with Cajun food transplants.”
For now, the tease leaves us with more questions than answers. Could Olde Tyme Grocery soon be serving up po’boys in Texas? Only time—and perhaps another cryptic social media post—will tell.
