The past few days have been a whirlwind of activity in Texas as much of the coastal sections of the state have dealing with a "whirlwind" of a different kind. Hurricane Francine has been on the minds of many in Texas for the past week and for a lot of us the storm was a very good reason to visit our local Costco warehouse store.

Texas is home to 38 locations of Costco and whether you were making storm preparations along the Upper Texas Coast near Galveston and Houston or were thinking of a big football weekend in Austin, College Station, or San Antonio there is some consumer safety information you need to be aware of.

If you did shop at a Texas Costco in recent weeks there are a couple of products that you might have purchased but have since been recalled. One of the product recalls focuses on a potential problem with plastic packaging in the product itself. The other recall was made because of a labeling error.

What Two Products Have Recently Been Recalled from Costco?

The product that was voluntarily recalled by the manufacturer because of a potential plastic problem is the Kodiak Power Waffles, Buttermilk, and Vanilla 40-count package. The recalled products have a "Sell By Date of Jan. 10, 2026".  A statement from Costco revealed that there is a concern that a soft plastic film might be present in the products.

We should note that no injuries or illnesses have been reported because of this recalled product. Costco asks customers who have purchased the product to return the unused portion to the store for a full refund. Or if you have further questions you may call the Kodiak Consumer Help Line at 801-328-4067. The number is available for messaging 24 hours a day, calls will be returned between 9 am and 6 pm Texas time.

The second product that has been recalled from Costco store shelves comes from Skylark Meats LLC. They are the manufacturers of Rock River Cattle Co, brand meat products. The specific product in question for this recall is the Smokey Hibachi Skirt Steaks.

This product is voluntarily being recalled because of a labeling issue. The product does contain soy, wheat, and sesame and those ingredients were not included in the product's ingredient label. The risk to consumer is minimal and no reports of adverse or allergic reactions have been noted because of the issue.

If you do have this product at home and don't feel comfortable using it, you may return it to your local store for a full product refund or replacement. The other "flavors" of Rock River Cattle Co meats are not affected by this voluntary recall.
