(KMDL-FM) Fans of the Texas-based beaver-themed travel center Buc-ee's have announced the release of a new product. The product will be available at Buc-ee's locations in Texas City, Hillsboro, New Braunfels, as well as the other locations in Texas, the newest location in Mississippi, and eventually the Buc-ee's that are slated to open in Louisiana.

Many fans of the "Beaver" were taken aback by the announcement. No, it's not unusual for Buc-ee's to release new products. But most of those innovations are in the form of jerky, sweet treats, candy, or something to do with brisket and barbeque. This new item doesn't even count as food.

And, thinking like a parent, this might be the kind of item that mom and dad would willingly purchase for their youngsters while making a pit stop at a Buc-ee's while on the road.

Buc-ee's Unveils a New Item That Seems a Bit Nostalgic

In my humble opinion, the newly revealed Buc-ee's item harkens back to traveling by car when I was a kid. In case you haven't figured it out, I am old enough to remember when there were no portable video players, smartphones, or electronic devices other than the radio to keep the kids entertained while traveling.

We entertained ourselves by chatting, looking out the window, playing the license plate game, or maybe a hotly contested round of "I Spy with My Little Eye".  There were also comic books, and if our moms were particularly "brutal," we'd read our "summer reading" books to get a leg up on the upcoming school year.

What Is The New Product Recently Unveiled at Buc-ee's Travel Centers?

Oddly enough, "books" and "school" figure into the new item now available at Buc-ee's across the country. The new item is a book. It's called Buc-ee Goes to School.

The book is authored by Katherine Alpin. If the last name sounds familiar to fans of Buc-ee's, it's because she is the daughter of Buc-ee's founder Arch "Beaver" Alpin III. You could call it nepotism if you want. But, I would be willing to bet the daughter of the man who created Buc-ee in the first place knows a lot more about the character than any other author could hope to know.

We can't confirm, but it sure appears as though there could be a whole series of Buc-ee's books on the horizon. If they do well, maybe a series of videos? Then, if those do well, it would be a dream come true if it happened, Buc-ee's on Ice. Okay, I am just dreaming there, but I would pay to see a beaver on ice skates cleaning a multi-stall bathroom while smoking a brisket and dropping beaver nuggets.

The possibilities are endless, much like the line of cars waiting to get in or out of the Buc-ee's near Roberstdale, Alabama. You know the Buc-ee's on the way to the beach? Yeah, that one. At least the kids would have something to read while they are waiting for Dad to merge back onto I-10.
