Options for a night out in Nacogdoches are about to take a major hit. If you were thinking of seeing Wicked or Gladiator II for Thanksgiving, you won't like this.

According to the Lufkin Daily News and Nacogdoches Daily Sentinel (NDS) the only commercial movie theater in all of Nacogdoches County is closing for good starting tomorrow, Wednesday, November 27, 2024.

NDS contacted the company, but no one responded to the email sent for comment on Monday. They spoke to customers at the theater Monday who were very surprised they were closing.

Today Is The Last Day To See A Movie In Nacogdoches

AMC Classic Nacogdoches 6 in the Northview Plaza Shopping Center is open today for their final day of business.  Today is the last day for the foreseeable future to see a first-run movie in the oldest town in Texas.

If a college town can't keep one movie theater, what does that say about the moviegoing future? Perhaps everyone is too glued to their phones to bother with this antiquated, long-form media.

Northview Plaza has been going through a lot of changes. There are 20 different storefronts in the facility.

This isn't the first closure at the location. In the past few years Sears Hometown Store, Party and Things, and Kimberly's Kloset all shuttered locations in the center.

Nacogdoches used to have multiple theaters like the Main Theater, Lumberjack Drive-In, Stone Fort Theater, Texan Theater, and the Pines Drive-In.

Now Nacogdoches residents will be forced to drive to Lufkin or Center to see first-run movies. Hopefully, someone will bring the movies back to Nacogdoches soon.
