Fatal Accident in Nacogdoches Involving Commercial Vehicle
Friday afternoon November 22, 2024, the Nacogdoches Police and Fire Department responded to a fatality accident in the 2000 block of Old Tyler Road. The incident involved a commercial vehicle that had veered off the roadway, striking trees and rolling over.
The Nacogdoches Police Department released the information on Facebook. Initial reports suggest the truck was southbound when it used the turn lane to pass other vehicles, but unexpectedly left the road.
Motorists on the scene acted quickly to assist in removing the driver from the vehicle, which was leaking diesel fuel. Despite their efforts, the driver was pronounced deceased upon the arrival of emergency responders.
HazMat Team and TXDot Respond To Diesel Spill
In addition to the police and fire department response, the Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) and a HazMat team were on the scene to manage the diesel spill caused by the accident. At this time the spill has been contained to prevent further environmental hazards.
The investigation is still ongoing, and the name of the deceased driver is being withheld until the family can be notified.
Nacogdoches Police Now Hiring New Officers
The Nacogdoches Police Department is now accepting applications for certified and non-certified officers. The salary starts at $60,043, and all certified officers receive a $5,000 sign-on bonus.
