Top 6 Texas Cities Perfect For Vegans And Vegetarians
You would think that adopting a vegan or vegetarian lifestyle in a state with chicken farms and cattle ranches in every town would be nearly impossible. It doesn't have to be that way, especially if you plan to visit one of these towns.
I was surprised to find 13 Texas cities on Wallethub's list of the best 100 U.S. cities for vegans and vegetarians. Mostly because upon visiting some of these cities in Texas, the options are limited when trying to find fully vegan or vegetarian restaurants.
The methodology used that data, but they also took other things like the availability and cost of fresh produce in an area. The study was more about living somewhere, not just visiting and eating out.
Austin Is The Best Town To Be Vegan In Texas
Austin and the surrounding areas have the best options for eating out in Texas as a vegan. A quick search online and you will find fully vegan places to eat from fine dining to food trucks.
You will also find that many restaurants there have vegan options. Though they didn't use that as the only deciding factor in this study, Austin came out 6 in the nation as being the most vegan-friendly.
One of the best things about Austin is that it is centrally located, so unless you live in El Paso (also made the list) it is an equal drive for anyone in the state to visit. That is the main reason why it became our state capitol.
Houston Is The Second Best Town To Be Vegan In Texas
You can also find completely vegan restaurants in Houston (#18 in the nation). There are also many cultures in Houston, and some of them fully support a vegan lifestyle.
Indian, Thai, and Pakistani restaurants offer many vegan options. Here are the other 4 towns In Texas that made the top 6 on the list:
(#20) San Antonio
(#30) Dallas
(#34) Irving
Sixth Town In Texas On The List Is A Non-Starter for Vegans
The sixth one is a head-scratcher for me. Lubbock according to the survey is 36 in the country to be vegan.
I have agreed with the placement of other towns on the list, but Lubbock is a virtual dead zone for completely vegan dining. It's not the only criterion for this survey though.

Being Vegan In Texas Means Never Speaking About It
Some of the best places to have a vegan meal in Texas do not advertise that they serve vegan food. Some only serve plant-based food and don't place a (V) anywhere on the menu.
