These 5 Deep East Texas Girls’ Basketball Teams Are State Ranked

District season is well underway for Deep East Texas girls' basketball teams. Five teams from the Pineywoods are included in the Top 25 state rankings (Texas Association of Basketball Coaches) in their respective divisions.

Chireno Lady Owls

Chireno is ranked #4 in the state in Class 2A. They are 15-2 overall and a perfect 5-0 in district play. Their only two losses on the season have been to Jacksonville (ranked 20th in Class 5A) along with a narrow defeat to Broaddus (ranked 4th in Class A).

After going two rounds deep in the playoffs last year, the Lady Owls are looking to make a deep run toward a state championship in 2025.

Lovelady Lady Lions

Lovelady is ranked #16 in the state in Class 2A. They are 19-5 overall and 4-0 in district play. The last time the Lady Lions lost a district game was January 2021!!

The Lady Lions advanced to the third round of the playoffs last year before losing to the eventual state champs - Martins Mill.

Broaddus Lady Bulldogs

Broaddus is ranked #4 in the state in Class A. They are 20-4 overall and 5-0 in district play.

The Lady Bulldogs defeated Martins Mill, the defending 2A state champs and current number-one ranked team in Class 2A. In fact, it's Martins Mill's only loss on the season.  Broaddus also has wins over Chireno and Lovelady, both state-ranked Class 2A teams.

Brookeland Ladycats

Brookeland is ranked #11 in the state in Class A. They are 21-4 on the season and 5-0 in district play. The Ladycats have rolled off 32 straight district victories over the past 3 seasons.

All four of their losses have come to two state-ranked teams (Chireno and Kountze).

Martinsville Lady Pirates

Martinsville is ranked #25 in the state in Class A. They are 14-10 on the season and 5-0 in district play. The Lady Pirates are poised to make their 3rd straight appearance in the Class A playoffs.
