Two weeks into the Texas high school football season, several East Texas athletes are ranked among the top offensive statistical leaders in the state, according to the MaxPreps website.

Here's a look at some of the Pineywoods' top rushers, receivers, and quarterbacks. Keep in mind that the stats folks at MaxPreps can only consider the stats that are sent to them. If an athlete for your team has amazing stats, but is omitted, chances are his numbers were not reported.

Top Rushers in Deep East Texas

Kenny Waters (Lufkin) 

The Panther running back has rushed for 405 yards on just 28 carries for a staggering 14.5 yards per carry. He has scored 3 touchdowns in the young season.

Kaegan Ash (Mt. Enterprise)

The senior will go down as one of the most prolific running backs in East Texas history. So far this year, he has carried the ball 28 times for 354 yards.  That gives him over 7100 yards rushing in his high school career with the Wildcats.

Dalton Walker (Elkhart)

This multi-purpose athlete plays running back and receiver for the Elks. Through 2 games, he has rushed for 306 yards, averaging just under 10 yards per carry.

Benjamin Coyle (Shepherd)

The elusive Pirate running back has amassed 266 yards on JUST 13 CARRIES! He's averaging over 20 yards every time he gets handed the football!

Avery Yarbrough (Garrison)

He has been a workhorse for the state-ranked Bulldogs. Yarbrough has run for 240 yards on 31 carries.

Joel Otwell (Mt. Enterprise)

Talk about a scary 1-2 punch. Opposing teams can't just focus on Texas Tech commit Kaegan Ash in the Wildcat backfield. Otwell has racked up 237 yards on only 13 carries.

Top High School Receivers in the Piney Woods

Ziekus Garner (Livingston)

The big play threat is part of the reason the Lions have turned things around this season. He has caught 12 passes for 307 yards, averaging over 25 yards per catch.

Micah Lockett (Nacogdoches)

The 2025 Class 5A High Jump Champion has been using his vertical explosion to haul in passes. So far in 2025, he has 9 catches for 249 yards.

Raja Garza-Adams (Jasper)

The Bulldog wide receiver has amassed 196 yards on 11 catches.

Top Quarterbacks in the Pineywoods

Tyler Soza (Livingston)

The Lion signal-caller has thrown for 474 yards and 6 touchdowns. He has a passer rating of 110.

Jaylan Garrett (Nacogdoches)

The Dragon quarterback has thrown for 463 yards and 3 touchdowns. His passer rating is 107.

Luke Babin (Woodville)

The state-ranked Eagles had a solid passing game thanks to Babin. He has thrown for 418 yards and 5 touchdowns. His passer rating is an astounding 138.
