
Two Prescribed Burns to Bring Smoky Skies to Parts Of East Texas
🔥Two Prescribed Burns Are Taking Place in East Texas Today (Tuesday)

🔥The Burns Are Scheduled to End Late This Afternoon
The U.S. Forest Service - National Forests and Grasslands in Texas is advising residents of east Texas of two prescribed burns on Tuesday, April 15.

These controlled events will encompass just under 3500 acres in Montgomery and San Augustine Counties.
Montgomery County Prescribed Burn
Authorities expect this burn to start at 11:30 a.m. The perimeter of the fire will be near FM 149 and Forest Service Road 219. This will place the burn near the intersection of FM 149 and FM 1791. The burn is on the south side of FM 149.
Prevailing winds are expected out of the east and northeast with some gusts to over 20 mph. Smoke may impact areas from FM 149 to FM 1791. Motorists to asked to drive with caution as ground personnel will be operating in the area.
The estimated completion time of the burn is 5 p.m.

San Augustine Prescribed Burn
This controlled burn is set for ignition at 10 a.m. on April 15. The fire will be adjacent to the Townsend Recreation Site, along FM 2923, and bounded to the east by FM 1277.
Approximately 1270 acres will be affected. Winds were expected to shift from the south to the northeast around the time of ignition. Persons around the mid-lake area of Sam Rayburn to Zavalla may experience smoky conditions. The prevailing winds should carry smoke away from Broaddus.
The estimated completion time of this prescribed burn is 6 p.m. Once again, motorists are asked to travel with caution in the hazy conditions as ground personnel will be operating in the area.
