With the huge following behind the AMC series,"The Walking Dead," a lot of folks have been tuning in each week to see the drama unfold as the undead pop up every so often in order to cause the survivors to keep wandering around, looking for a new home.

I don't think it's unrealistic to say a lot of East Texans have imagined themselves in a scenario where the would have to battle hordes of zombies, and I'm willing to bet a few of you even have a plan in place if those fictional flesh eating foes ever become a reality.

Oddly enough,a real estate website, FindTheHome did a study to determine where in the country people would be most likely to survive a zombie apocalypse. The site took a few factors into account, ranking counties with scores ranging from 0-100. The higher the score, the better your chances of survival are.

1. Best Places to Find Resources – In any apocalyptic situation, we're obviously going to need water and food, or at least the ability to grow food. Our region is neither here nor there. A few folks have farms or small gardens, but not the majority. I'm not so sure this study took in the factor of hunting and fishing, since Angelina County has only a rating of 51.7

2. Best Places to Defend Yourself – While Angelina County doesn’t house any major military bases, Texas is a big-time hunting state, and we all know zombies wouldn't stand a chance! The country may be divided when it comes to gun control, but Texas is a little skewed in another direction. For some reason, Angelina County comes in with a score of 49.7 in terms of being able to defend ourselves from the zombie apocalypse, but we know the surrounding areas have a much higher rating. I want to know who exactly did this little study.

3. Where People are Most Likely to Survive – This one factored in such data as having a young, well-educated population that would be able to adapt to such a catastrophic event as zombies. Angelina Country didn't fare too well in this area with only a score of 43. Nacogdoches being more of a college town got a score of 62.9. Personally, with all the medical personnel we have in the area, I’d have thought we’d rank even higher. We might not come up with the cure for the zombie disease, but we'll have a lot less injured survivors.

So what's our score?

We ranked pretty low in all the areas, Angelina County actually received a total score of just under 50.0, making it an iffy county to be.

But for some reason the final map shows us at 80 ... Maybe they DID somehow factor in our hunting skills and individual survival plans. Not sure if this information will help you sleep at night, but we've got work to do if we want to get our rating up.
