Whataburger Giving Back to the Community – Here’s How You Can Help!

Facebook

Unless you are familiar with hamburger history, you may not know exactly “WHAT” you are actually looking at when you come face-to-face with that famous orange and white “W”.  And, as you dive into their scrumptious menu with the same intensity as Jerry Jones manages the Dallas Cowboys, you may still be in doubt about the legacy of your dining experience.

Of course, you instantly recognize Whataburger, but “WHAT” you may be missing, is a history lesson on an institution that has been standing on Texas soil for 63 years now.  Founded by Harmon Dobson and Paul Burton, Whataburger opened its first restaurant in Corpus Christi in 1950.

The goal was simple, to make a burger being held with two hands that tasted so good, you would say “what a burger” after taking a bite.  Fast forward to the present, where burger buffs are still shouting that slogan today.

The next time your taste buds send you to the big “W”, keep in mind that chowing down  will make a serious difference for the “Lufkin Dream Center”, the “Family Crisis Center of East Texas”, and “Junior Achievement”.

Mark your calendar for these very special dates and times:

Tuesday, March 12 - the Whataburger, located at the corner of Highway 94 and the Loop, will donate 25% of sales from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. to help the “Lufkin Dream Center” cover costs associated with upcoming expansion.  The Dream Center provides faith based services and programs to the local community, including rehabilitation programs, job skills training and life skills counseling.  (936) 875-4176 for more information.

Wednesday, March 20 - the Whataburger, located at the corner of Highway 94 and the Loop, will donate 25% of sales from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. to the “Family Crisis Center of East Texas“; bringing awareness to the overwhelming sexual assault epidemic plaguing our country.  This often, unreported crime, strikes every two minutes, according to the United States Department of Justice’s National Crime Victimization Survey.  Last year the Crisis Center provided over 75,000 essential services.  You don’t have to be a victim forever.  Help can be found at (936) 639-1681.

Thursday, March 21 - the Whataburger in Nacogdoches, located at 2617 North Street, will donate 25% of sales from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. to the “Family Crisis Center of East Texas” (see above).

Tuesday, March 26 - the Whataburger, located at the corner of Highway 94 and the Loop, will donate 25% of sales from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. to help purchase curriculum for volunteers to provide students of all ages with real world learning experiences through the “Junior Achievement” foundation.  It is dedicated to giving young people the knowledge and skills needed to own their economic success, plan for their future, and make intelligent choices.  More details can be found out by calling (936) 632-0940.

So, grab a bite at Whataburger, and make a difference in our community – won’t you?
